The Leadership Team of the Chinese Congregation

The leadership team consisting of 7 members plus the Minister of the Chinese Congregation, his wife and a part time Chinese minister, which oversees the day to day running of the church, organization of activities, as well as drawing up long-term objectives for the development of the Chinese section of the church. Members of the Leadership Team are elected during an annual meeting whenever  vacancies occur. The leadership team meets about once a month. Individual leaders also sit in various committees of Epsom Methodist Church as representatives of the Chinese Congregation.

The Leadership Team consists of members of the young and older age group reflecting the age composition of the congregation.

Annual meeting of the whole congregation is held twice a year during which the Leadership Team gives a report about the church (Chinese section) to members and the congregation. The latter can raise questions, make comments and suggestions on any matter concerning the Congregation. This will be acted upon by the Leadership Team so that improvements may be made.

Rev. David Winwood

Superintendent of Sutton Circuit churches, including Epsom Methodist Church

When the current building development is completed we hope to arrange a small Garden of Remembrance in the corner, left of the Dovecote bookshop, but our first task will be to create a new focal point for worship in the redesigned church.

We are planning to have a large communion area surrounded by a communion rail and a step on all four sides, so that we can kneel all round to receive bread and wine in response to Christ’s invitation to, ‘Do this in remembrance of me’.  (2007)

Rev. Kwok Kong Yap
Chinese Congregation

May the spirit give us the strength to build our love for one another so that we can work together to serve the Lord and others with one mind and in unity.

Work together to spread the gospel so that the Church of our Lord continue to expand.

Teach, develop and train Chinese Christians to hold fast to the truth, raise up the next generation to serve God and continue to expand the gospel and His work to every corner of the earth, Amen

Rev. Hazel Yu
English & Chinese Congregations

My vision of a leader for the Chinese congregation is to assist Rev K K Yap to fulfil the potential in reaching out to the Chinese Community and bringing many to Christ.

I am learning Mandarin so that I can communicate with some Chinese who only speak Mandarin.  The 'Faith & Worship' course will equip me to practice and to share the work of ministry.  I am keenly interested and participate in pastoral care.

Caring (overall)

I am pleased to proclaim the miraculous signs and wonders which God on the highest has done in my life。

His Kingdom lasts forever! His authority endures through all generations!! (Daniel 4:2-3)

It is a blessing and grace to be able to proclaim His miraculous deeds! Living in a fast and ever changing age we must be happy and willing to fulfil the evangelical mission, grasping firmly the glorious hope of resurrection in God’s eternal kingdom.

Joseph Liu

Leader of the members of the Congregation

I have been a member of the Chinese Congregation since the formation of the Fellowship meeting in the early days. It is a great joy that God has given me the opportunity to serve Him, Christian brothers and sisters and friends in our congregation. I am one of the members in the Leadership Team acting as a Senior Steward chairing meetings and co-ordinating church activities and functions.

Missionary work and spiritual growth

I went to church since I was very young. This enabled me to get to know this God who created heaven and earth and all things. His grace and his hands follow me wherever I go. Moreover I have the opportunity to serve in the church. May God keep the Chinese Congregation making it become a bridge to save many more souls.

Ernest Tsui

Caring (Youth)

Having been the chairman of the youth fellowship for a few years, it was part of my spiritual growth to be elected into the leadership team. May we work together in unity to build upon what is laid before us, with hope, with joy and his blessings.

Tim Cheung

Secretary

My name is Tim Cheung, and I'm the Secretary for the Chinese Leadership Team, which basically means I take care of the boring paperwork like writing letters and recording meeting minutes. If you ever want to know what mischief the Chinese Leadership gets up to, I'm the one to talk to!
(Please forgive, Tim loves jokes and mischief!)

Caring ministry

Whether or not church ministries prosper or not depends on co-workers' acceptance of one another and their service to God in unity. They also need to support and intercede for one another. I pray that our Lord of grace would give us strength to accomplish our mission so that it might glorify God and profit people.
